Heinz Hall

Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts home of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra sustained smoke and odor damage from an electrical fire in the sub basement on March 22, 2010.

Built in 1927, the property is a recognized historical landmark and contains marble surfaces, crystal chandeliers, Dutch metal (gold leaf) painting and dyed patterned wool carpet.

The property needed to remain open to the public during the cleaning and deodorizing process when there was not a performance scheduled, for tours, meetings and rehearsals.  The public areas needed to be completed by 4pm on April 6th, due to the opening of The Wizard of Oz.  All of the public areas were cleaned to the 10 foot high mark.  This daunting task was accomplished by partnering with another local ServiceMaster franchise.

After the running of Wizard of Oz, the main hall was prepped for the man lift needed to clean the 58 foot high ceilings.  The marble floor was protected with foam board and plywood to ensure that the 65 foot man lift required would not damage the marble floor.

The property remained in full operation during the cleaning process.  Heinz Hall never needed to reschedule a rehearsal, meeting, tour or performance during the cleaning and deodorization process.
