Vincentian Home

Compassionate care for the aged is a ministry of the Vincentian
Sisters of Charity. In addition to a 75-year tradition of
long-term care, the Sisters offer assisted living accommodations
in Pittsburgh’s North Hills. Vincentian Home administrators
faced an emergency all too common: a small mattress fire that
began in one resident’s unit sending smoke and water
damage throughout an entire wing of the facility. Fortunately
no one was hurt.
Administrators needed to contain the damage quickly and begin
restoration as soon as possible in order to protect the health
of residents and minimize their inconvenience.

Insurance Restoration Services (now ServiceMaster by Mistick)
responded to the Sisters’ call for assistance. Crews
immediately went to work repairing the room and cleaning more
than 15 units. Because the fire was on the second floor, water
used to fight the flames had seeped down into the first floor
below causing additional problems there. The extent of the
water damage required demolition of ceilings and drywall in
5 units.
Yet in less than 2 weeks ServiceMaster by Mistick completed
all repairs to the most heavily damaged units (including locating
an exact carpet match), cleaned walls throughout the entire
wing, replaced wallpaper in the hallways, and repainted. The
project also involved the phased process of packing, storing,
and returning the furniture and personal belongings of numerous
residents affected by the emergency.
